Don Henley: Sit Down You're Rockin' The Boat

उपनिषद्  and being a child.

उपनिषद् (pronounced as upanishad) means "Sit near"

Ever wondered why a child learns faster than an adult?
It's because a child practices उपनिषद् (upanishad), the ability to sit down near to the teacher and be in a RECEPTIVE  mode.

As we grow older we lose the RECEPTIVE ability and become REACTIVE.

We react by over analyzing too fast too soon  and in that process we do not allow information to settle in our brain.

Many assume over analyzing or being reactive instead of receptive is a sign of intelligence but honestly over analysis/reactiveness is sign of inability to focus or at times even a form of anxiety.

All of us adults have been children before.

Try to go back in time to remember how we learnt in school.

When we were in school if the teacher said A is for Apple we accepted it.

We permitted the information to enter our brain.

We built our understanding, we accepted information and as we learnt more we processed it.

This is very important when we are learning anything new as adults.

Learning a new language is like learning to swim.

If you do not allow the information to reach your brain you would drown.

While learning swimming we do not over analyze, we listen attentively so that we do not drown.

The same format should be applied when learning a new language as adults.

At the beginning stages be in receptive mode, उपनिषद् (sit near) and let brain store information.

Funny Chicken Song And Dancing Rooster - FS Media For Children And Babies

Rooster and Sanskrit

There are three types of  vowels in Sanskrit.

ह्रस्वः hrasvaH (short vowels) = 1 count

दीर्घ: dIrghaH (long vowels)= 2 counts

प्लुतः plutaH 3 counts

Examples of   ह्रस्वः vowel is अ,उ  etc etc

Examples of दीर्घ: vowel is आ , ऊ etc etc

Examples of प्लुतः vowel is अ३,  उ३ etc etc

So what has a rooster got to do with this?

Well..when we add these vowels to the consonants for eg:

क्+उ =कु

क्+ऊ =कू

क्+उ =कु३

What we get is कुकूकु३(kuKUku3)...well its described as the sound of a rooster crowing.

So better wake up early and crow your way to learning Sanskrit!

Bruno Mars - Marry you

 How can I marry you??

यस्य  षष्ठी चतुर्थी च विहस्य च विहाय च ।
यस्याहं च द्वितीया स्यात् द्वितीया स्यामहं कथम॥

yasya SaSThI caturthI ca vihasya ca vihAya ca |
yasyAhaM ca dvitIyA syAt dvitIyA syAmahaM katham||

How can I be a second to himद्वितीया(dvitIyA)(be a wife to him) who says विहस्य(vihasya) is the 6th Vibhakti and विहाय (vihAya) is the 4th Vibhakti?

So how can I marry you?

विहस्य(vihasya) means Having smiled.

विहाय (vihAya) means Except.

One who knows the Noun declension of the अकारान्तः(masculine words ending with अ would know that the 6th case ending of an अकारान्तः for eg रामः(rAmaH) is रामस्य(rAmasya)(belonging to rAmaH)

and the 4th case ending of रामः(rAmaH) is रामाय(rAmAya)(for rAmaH)

विहस्य(vihasya) looks similar to the pattern of रामस्य(rAmasya) but its not so because विहस्य(vihasya)

means Having smiled.

विहाय (vihAya) looks similar to the pattern of रामाय(rAmAya) but its not so because विहाय (vihAya) means Except.

So what has it got to do with marriage.

The story goes that a certain girl was very intelligent and well versed in Sanskrit and asked her prospective groom this question and he got it all wrong because he only knew the Noun declension of the अकारान्तः and based everything on that alone.

So she did not marry him!

Strange girl to reject a man for not knowing Sanskrit??

Abba - Dancing Queen (Official Video)

नर्तकी (nartakI)  कीर्तन(kIrtana)  transposed!

Today we would learn two words, नर्तकी (nartakI) and कीर्तन(kIrtana)
नर्तकी (nartakI) (dancer)
किर्तन (kirtana) (singing in the praise of God)

According to Sathya Sai Baba in Sathya Sai Speaks Volume 6 Chapter 49, Maya(माया) is like a dancer who entices our intelligence away by her enchanting dance and this नर्तकी (nartakI) (dancer) can be immobilized by  कीर्तन(kIrtana)(singing in the praise of God).

Pay close attention to the words:
If you read the word  नर्तकी backwards in Sanskrit it would spell as
कीर्तन(kIrtana)

So the Dancing Queen can be controlled by God!

Mariah Carey - Vision Of Love (Official Video)

विकलदृष्टिः

Many a times in any language we find words that seems a bit harsh to describe those with Impaired sense organs.

Blind is not too "polite" a word and the more polite word is Visually challenged/ Visually Impaired

In Sanskrit you would find the word अन्ध(andha) used most commonly to denote the word blind.

But what if we want to be a little more considerate in how we call a person who is visually challenged or impaired?

The word to use is विकलदृष्टिः(vikaladRSTiH)(Visually Challenged/Impaired)

If we have love in our vision, we naturally gravitate towards refined speech.

Stevie Wonder I Just Called To Say I Love You

एकं ब्रह्म द्वितीय नास्ति नेह ना नास्ति किंचन
(ekam brahma dvitIya nAsti neha nA nAsti kincana)
There is only one(brahma as in Absolute Reality), not the second; not at all, not at all, not in the least bit.
*Kindly note there is no usage of "you or I or who " etc in the statement from Brahma Sutras but you would find the usage of both affirmation and negation.
In any religion the Highest statements are always both Affirmation and Negation.
Simple way to remember this is the feeling of being in love! In early stages of romance we usually say "I love ONLY you and no one else"(but we tend to repeat this again and again when we meet someone new!LOL)
So the pattern is always Affirmation and Negation.. as long duality exists we cant run away from Polar Opposites.
What lies beyond that? Now that is the biggest unanswered question which even the Nasadiya Shukta asks about creation:
"इयं विसृष्टिर्यत आबभूव यदि वा दधे यदि वा न |
यो अस्याध्यक्षः परमे व्योमन्त्सो अङ्ग वेद यदि वा न वेद ॥
Whence all creation had its origin,
the creator, whether he fashioned it or whether he did not,
the creator, who surveys it all from highest heaven,
he knows — or maybe even he does not know
So finally to know the Absolutely Reality we need to know LOVE!
