Vara Leela Gaana Lola (Thyagaraja Krithi - Chorus)

Today we are going to talk about rANA(राणा) and raNa (रण)

Lets get to know the difference.

rANA as in the name of the actor who played the role of Bhalladeva in Bahubali.

rANA(राणा) stems from the word rAjan राजन् which clearly means King/Chief/Sovereign.

Next is raNa (रण) which means battle.

We have names like raNjIt (रणजीत्) which means raNa(Battle) jIt(victorious)

The word raNadhIra  (रणधीर) means dauntless in battle and this word can be found in a famous Saint Thyagaraja Song titled Vara Leela Gana Lola..

रणधीर सर्व सारा
सुकुमार बुध विहारा
धनुज नीर धर समीरण
करुणा रस परिपूर्ण
जार जोर पाहि माम्

raNadhIra sarva sAra sukumAra budha vihAra danuja nIradhara
samIraNa karuNArasa paripUrNa jAra cOra pAhimAm

Dauntless in battle. O the essence of everything!
Tender one.. Lord who abides in the hearts of the wise.
O breeze which drives away the clouds of the non divine(asura)
One brimming with the juice of Mercy.
O paramour (of Gopis)! O thief (of butter)! Protect me.
