Funny Chicken Song And Dancing Rooster - FS Media For Children And Babies

Rooster and Sanskrit

There are three types of  vowels in Sanskrit.

ह्रस्वः hrasvaH (short vowels) = 1 count

दीर्घ: dIrghaH (long vowels)= 2 counts

प्लुतः plutaH 3 counts

Examples of   ह्रस्वः vowel is अ,उ  etc etc

Examples of दीर्घ: vowel is आ , ऊ etc etc

Examples of प्लुतः vowel is अ३,  उ३ etc etc

So what has a rooster got to do with this?

Well..when we add these vowels to the consonants for eg:

क्+उ =कु

क्+ऊ =कू

क्+उ =कु३

What we get is कुकूकु३(kuKUku3)...well its described as the sound of a rooster crowing.

So better wake up early and crow your way to learning Sanskrit!
