Owl City- To The Sky Lyrics

Twice Born and a Bird!

किं काकः धर्मं जानति? kiM kAkaH dharmaM jAnati?( Does the crow know dharma?)

आम्! धर्मं जानति यतः  सः द्विजः Am! dharmaM jAnati yataH  sa: dvija:(Yes! He knows dharma for he is a dvijaH)

What has a crow got to do with dharma and being a dvijaH?

The word द्विजः(dvijaH) has more than one meaning.

It can mean a Twice Born(One who knows Dharma as in Brahmana Varna) and it can also mean a bird.

So the sentences above is playing with both the meanings of  द्विजः(dvijaH)

Billy Idol - Dancing With Myself (Official Music Video)

मया सह नृत्यामि (mayA saha nRtyAmi)

How do we say "Dancing with myself" in Sanskrit?

It's simple.

We employ the 3rd Vibhakti (Instrumental case ending) to denote the meaning of the word With.

I in Sanskrit is called अहम् (aham) but when we are using 3rd Vibhakti (Instrumental case ending) it is declined as मया (mayA) which means "by me or with me" depending on the context.

Dancing with myself in Sanskrit is translated मया सह नृत्यामि (mayA saha nRtyAmi)

Kun Faya Kun Full Video Song Rockstar | Ranbir kapoor

भव ! ततः भवति (bhava!tataH bhavati)

The song I posted is titled Kun Fayakun كن فيكون which is Arabic for  "Be!  And It is "

Let's translate this phrase to Sanskrit.

Yes..from Arabic to Sanskrit! (That's the advantage you get if your teacher is a polyglot..you get information of other languages too)

Be! And It is! كن فيكون

In the original phrase even though its translated in English as Be! in Arabic the word fa ف is used in more than one way that is fa ف  can mean:
1)And
2)Therefore
3)So.

So keeping this in mind this term "Kun Fayakun" is used to denote the act of Creation by God in a "Be! And So it Becomes" format.
Let's translate!
Be! is in  imperative mood.
Is/Becomes is in Present tense.
Translation: भव! ततः भवति (bhava! tataH bhavati)---- Be! And it is (becomes)

In Sanskrit :
भव (bhava)means Be!
ततः(tataH) means "And therefore"
भवति(bhavati) means Becomes

Enjoy the song..a master piece by A.R. Rahman.

Paramore: Decode [OFFICIAL VIDEO]

Vedanta Decoded!
The word विग्रह:(vigrahaH) has multiple meanings ranging from Form, Shape to Analysis.
It can also mean Decode.
The Decode meaning is used in a technical sense.
In Sanskrit grammar the term वृत्तिः(vRttiH) means a derived word and विग्रह:(vigrahaH) is a sentence which explains the meaning of a  वृत्तिः(vRttiH).

Ok...enough for the mumbo jumbo grammar, let's decode the word Vedanta.
There are 2 types of विग्रह:(vigrahaH) :

1) लौकिक विग्रहः(laukika vigrahH)

2)अलौकिक विग्रहः(alaukika vigrahaH)

In  लौकिक विग्रहः(laukika vigrahH) Vedanta is decoded as वेदानाम् अन्ताः वेदान्ताः(vedAnAm antAH vedAntAH)

In अलौकिक विग्रहः(alaukika vigrahH) Vedanta is decoded as वेद+आम् + अन्त +जस्= वेदान्ताः

Usually its the  लौकिक विग्रहः(laukika vigrahH) which is used to explain meaning of words.
अलौकिक विग्रहः(alaukika vigrahH) is for grammar geeks!

WALK THE MOON - Shut Up and Dance (Official Video)

Today's lesson is simple, it's about fighting in Sanskrit.
Now how do we tell someone "Shut up and go to hell" in Sanskrit?
When we fight with someone and give them orders we are using the Imperative mood in Sanskrit(लोट् लकार)(loT lakAra)

So let's begin.

Shut up and go to hell in Sanskrit is तूष्णीं भव ! नरकं गच्छ! (tUSNIM bhava! narakaM gacCa!)
भव(bhava) and गच्छ(gacCa) are both in the imperative mood 2nd person.
In the sentence above there is an implied pronoun, that is it is understood we are using the pronoun त्वम्(you).

Now,what if we want to ask someone to keep quiet and go to hell but we want to be a bit polite ..we can say this "kindly be silent and go to the nether regions"

For this we would be still using Imperative mood but in 1st person and the implied pronoun is  भवान्/भवती (bhavAn/bhavatI) and it is gender oriented .
भवान् is masculine
भवती is feminine.

"Kindly be silent and go to the nether regions" is translated as :

तूष्णीं भवतु पाताललोकं गच्छतु | tUSNIM bhavatu pAtAlalokaM gacCatu

Done for the day.
Whoever knew fighting in Sanskrit could be so fun!
Last but not least..instead of fighting you can tell someone तूष्णीं भव! मया सह नृत्य! (tUSNIM bhava! mayA saha nRtya!) (Shut up and dance with me!)

MAHABHARAT - YADA YADA HI DHARMASYA THEME WITH LYRICS

यदा यदा हि धर्मस्य ग्लानिर्भवति भारत |
अभ्युत्थानमधर्मस्य तदात्मानं सृजाम्यहम् || 7||
yadA yadA hi dharmasya glAnirbhavati bhArata
abhyutthAnamadharmasya tadAtmAnam sRjAmyaham.
परित्राणाय साधूनां विनाशाय च दुष्कृताम् |
धर्मसंस्थापनार्थाय सम्भवामि युगे युगे || 8||
paritrANAya sAdhUnAM vinAshAya ca duSkRtAm
dharmasamsthApanArthAya sambhavAmi yuge yuge

Most of us are familiar with the two famous stanzas from the Geeta...it roughly translates as "whenever there is decline in dharma and an increase in adharma I manifest myself ...and for the protection of the virtuous and for the annihilation of the evil doers I incarnate from age to age"

Now let's give a technical twist to this stanza in terms of equilibrium in nature.

I saw a question posed by another person on line elsewhere where he was asking members to translate this stanza as to fit in for his idea of mismanagement of man and resources of nature, everyone had their go in translating it and I myself gave my translation and I am reproducing what I had posted online there.

Here goes:

Whenever there is shift in the plates of law of being and the consequent chaos that spikes, to reinstate equilibrium, nature auto-corrects the causative factors for general well being once again( in other words ..restoring to factory setting from time to time)

Krisdayanti feat Melly Goeslaw - "Cinta" (Official Video)

चिता चिन्ता समाप्रोक्ता बिन्दुमात्रं विशेषता ।

सजीवं दहते चिन्ता निर्जीवं दहते चिता॥

citA cintA samAproktA bindumAtraM visheSatA |
sajIvaM dahate cintA nirjIvaM dahate citA||

Let's take a look at this stanza.
It translates as :

citA and cintA are said to be the same but differentiated only by a dot.
cintA(worry) burns the living, citA(pyre) burns the dead.

So let's take a look what this is all about.

 चिता (citA) = funeral pyre.
चिन्ता (cintA) = worry/anxiety

So why does the stanza talk about a dot?

The answer lies in the word चिन्ता (cintA)  and a  परसवर्णसन्धिः (parasavarNasandhiH) rule.

चिन्ता  is written as चिंता prior to the application of the परसवर्णसन्धिः (parasavarNasandhiH) rule.

So the dot refers to अनुस्वर(anusvara dot) seen in the word चिंता

Just one dot changes the meaning from pyre to worry.

But the strange thing is, in the Malay Language(Bahasa Malaysia) ..the word "cinta" means Romantic Love.
I guess Romantic Love makes one worry?

Memang pun!!!!kalau dah jatuh cinta pasti risau, tension, stress gilerrrrr!...pergi blah for all those who do not know Malay...I am not going to translate that!

Aim X Shoot (Full Song) | Season 2 | STAR

इषु  (iSu)

The word इषु  (iSu) is bi-gender.

It is one of the rare words in Sanskrit that is both Masculine and Feminine.

इषु  (iSu) means Arrow.

But just why is an Arrow both Masculine and Feminine?

Well, this comes under the classification of gender of the प्रातिपदिकम् (prAtipadikam)(nominal stem).

So "Aim and Shoot" your arrows!

The Carpenters- Top Of The World(HD/HQ)

तक्षकः (takSakaH)(Carpenter)

The word तक्षकः (takSakaH) means Carpenter in Sanskrit.
Let's chop into the root word तक्ष्(takS) which means "to cut"
So does तक्षकः (takSakaH) strictly only mean a Carpenter?
Well...a Carpenter cuts into wood hence it makes a sense that he is a cutter (of wood).
But let's look at the usage of the root word तक्ष्(takS) elsewhere.
The word तक्षशिला (takSashilA) which means Cut Stone since  तक्ष्(takS) means to cut and शिला(shilA) means stone.

Another interesting word is the name तक्षक(takSaka) which is the name of a Nagaraja(Serpent King).
Why is a serpent named तक्षक(takSaka)?
Is it because a snake cuts into flesh?

Well, may be! But the only तक्षकः (takSakaH) that never fails to make me feel on top of the world is  "The Carpenters"  that somehow always cuts into my heart(तक्षहृदय)(takSahRdaya) with joy!

Eric Clapton- Wonderful Tonight (HQ)

Translation: At the wedding celebrations of camels, donkeys sing.

Both mutually praise each other by saying "What a beautiful face! What a sweet voice"

Now,this stanza is poking fun at the appearance of a camel and at the braying of a donkey!

Well, I guess the donkeys belted out "You look wonderful tonight" for their camel friends.
