One of the best ways to learn Sanskrit is to sing it!

Fat Larry's Band - Traffic Stoppers

Traffic Lights and Sanskrit???

What has Sanskrit got to do with a Traffic Light?

Well, it's all about STOP, LOOK and Go.

We would be learning root words today that are linked with  traffic light signals.

All of us know that Red means STOP, Orange/Amber means LOOK, Green means GO.

So how is this linked with Sanskrit? Let's take a look!

स्थाप्(sthAp) root word for STOP in Sanskrit

लोच् (loc) root word for LOOK in Sanskrit

गच्छ्(gacC) root word for Go in Sanskrit.

There you go!

The next time you wait at a traffic light just remember  स्थाप्(sthAp), लोच् (loc) and गच्छ्(gacC)!

Dream Seed - Sound of Light (Full Album) - A Shamanic Sound Journey

शब्दप्रकाशः(shabdaprAkashaH)(Sound of Light)

Most of us would have heard of Shabda-Brahman --The Sound of Brahman, which is known as ॐ AUM.

But what about the शब्दप्रकाशः(shabdaprAkashaH)---The Sound of Light?

Seems strange right? That Sound of Light when both travel at different speeds?

Light does not need a medium to travel but sound needs a medium to travel.

This too makes us wonder about AUM which is Shabda-Brahman --(The Sound of Brahman) ...Is it the sound of Saguna Brahman or Nirguna Brahman?

For sound to travel we need a medium hence creation of matter of some sorts should be existing.
So technically it has to be the Sound of Saguna Brahman because Saguna is post- creation.

Also for a sound to be heard, we need a source of sound, medium to transmit it and something that perceives the sound by hearing or by feeling the vibration.

If there is nothing or no one to hear or feel the sound  goes "unheard".

For eg we humans can't hear the frequencies that dogs hear, so those frequencies go unheard by us humans though the sound exists.

So it seems clear that AUM most probably must be the Sound of Saguna Brahman.

Next question? What is the Sound of Nirguna Brahman? The state where creation had not yet taken place?

Absence of  matter, no one to hear the sound and neither a reason to have a sound.

It might seem  to be a शून्य(shUnya) a void ! No sound (शब्द:) nor light (प्रकाशः) exists.
So what say you?
Lord Buddha got it right? Shunyavada anyone?

Zaalima | Raees (Shah Rukh Khan & Mahira Khan) | Grini & Jamila (Music v...

कुञ्चितः केशः(kuncitaH keshaH)

The word कुञ्चितः केशः means curly haired.

You would find it in Srimadbhagavatam describing the hair of  Lord Vishnu and also in Hanuman Chalisa describing the hair of Hanuman.

कुञ्चितः can also mean bent or curved.
So looks as if curly hair is the preferred hair style in heaven!

Do check out the song and the singer Grini from Morocco singing the Arabic version of Zaalima from the SRK starer Raees.

Mr.Grini has अतीव सुन्दरः कुञ्चितः केशः(atIva sundaraH kuncitaH keshaH)(very beautiful curly hair)

Michael Learns To Rock - Any Way You Want It [Official Video]

Anyway you want it!

One of the interesting aspects of Sanskrit is you can place the position of the nouns/pronouns and verbs anyway you want it but the meaning does not change.
Example:

सः बालकः अस्ति। (saH bAlakaH asti) (He is a boy)

The possible combinations of writing this are:

1) सः बालकः अस्ति। (saH bAlakaH asti)

2) सः अस्ति बालकः। (saH asti bAlakaH)

3) बालकः सः अस्ति।(bAlakaH saH asti)

4) बालकः अस्ति सः।(bAlakaH asti saH)

5) अस्ति सः बालकः।(asti saH bAlakaH)

6) अस्ति बालकः सः।(asti bAlakaH saH)

All the above mean the same "He is a boy"

Yes, Any way you want it!

Morris Albert - Fellings (Tribute to)

भाव (bhAva)
The word भाव (bhAva) in Sanskrit has multiple shades of expression.
It can range from feelings, emotions, sentiment to intuition.
भाव (bhAva) does not stem from the sensory input of the body.
It stems from the heart, the seat of emotions.

Now how does भाव (bhAva) help in learning Sanskrit?
Yes it does!

Many a times when we learn Sanskrit we tend to focus on perfection as the word संस्कृतम्  itself means perfected.
But perfection need not be sans a heart.

This is where I recommend भाव (bhAva).
भाव (bhAva) is like a sixth sense where it takes learning to a different level where it goes beyond words.
By making learning only through the 5 senses it doesn't cater to every type of human.
Some humans are visually challenged, some have hearing disorders..does that mean they should not enjoy learning?
What about a person who is mentally challenged or even having a mental disorder? How does he learn?

Yes he can! He can learn through feelings भाव (bhAva).
भाव (bhAva) cuts through the physical body and transforms one's heart and confers wisdom.

Have you ever seen a dancer expressing all 9 emotions without saying a word?
So do you always need perfection to learn?
No you don't.

Have भाव (bhAva) in your hearts, learn to emote beyond words and भक्ति(bhakti) will help you understand विभक्ति(vibhakti)(grammar)
