Cow and Chicken Cartoon Intro / Opening / Theme (1997)

The Cow, The Bull and Ghee!

सर्पिस्

Today's post is going to be very Malaysian because I would be quoting a Malay proverb but worry not!  everyone would still get their dose of Sanskrit.

I am a doctor  after all..I won't forget to prescribe your regular doses!

Ok..let's go:

"Lembu punya susu sapi dapat nama"

Actually it means that "another person gets credit for the work done"

Lembu means Cow in Malay

Susu means Milk (Ok..Indian citizens I know you guys are laughing because Susu has a different meaning in an Indian language)

Sapi means Bull in Malay

Nama means Name in Malay

In Malay, Ghee is called Minyak Sapi that translates as Bull's Oil.

So the proverb says that the milk is from the cow but the bull gets the name because ghee is called Bull's oil.

Now this is where I would go Sanskrit to explain  why Sapi which means Bull in Malay is used for the word Ghee.

Reason ?

Because the Malay word Sapi is derived from the Sanskrit word सर्पिस् (sarpis)which means Ghee.

The confusion came about in Malay because not many were aware of the actual origin of the word Sapi.

So technically Bull didn't get the name for the Ghee!
