Janam Janam - Dilwale | Shah Rukh Khan | Kajol | Pritam | Arijit | Full ...

When we listen  to any Indian song be it Hindi or Tamil or any other Indian language try to scan the song for Sanskrit words and find the meaning.

Today lets listen to Janam Janam Janam from Dilwale.

Lets take a look at the lyrics.

In bold and blue are words of Sanskrit origin.

Janam janam janam saath chalna yunhi
Kasam tumhe kasam aake milna yahin
Ek jaan hai bhale do badan ho judaa
Meri hoke hamesha hi rehna
Kabhi na kehna alvida
Meri subah ho tumhi aur tumhi shaam ho
Tum dard ho tum hi aaraam ho
Meri duaaon se aati hai bas ye sadaa
Meri hoke hamesha hi rehna
Kabhi na kehna alvida

Meri hoke hamesha hi rehna
Kabhi na kehna Alvida
Teri baahon mein hai mere dono jahaan
Tu rahe jidhar meri jannat wahin
Jal rahi agan hai jo ye do tarfa
Na bujhe kabhi meri mannat yahi
Tu meri aarzu, main teri aashiqui
Tu meri shayari, main teri mausiqi
Talab talab talab bas teri hai mujhe
Nason mein tu nasha banke ghulna yunhi
Meri mohabbat ka karna tu haq ye adaa
Meri hoke hamesha hi rehna
Kabhi na kehna Alvida
Meri subah ho tumhi aur tumhi shaam ho
Tum dard ho, tum hi aaraam ho
Meri duaaon se aati hai bas ye sadaa
Meri hoke hamesha hi rehna
Kabhi na kehna Alvida

Well...so many Sanskrit words Shah Rukh Khan was belting out in Dilwale.

Dil is a Persian word meaning Heart.

The Sanskrit word for Heart is a very interesting word that explains the function of the heart itself.

The Sanskrit word for Heart is hRdaya ( हृदय )..from this we get the Tamil word Idhayam.

Lets dissect Hrdaya!
Ok lets get the scalpels ready and cut into the heart.
We can dissect it into 3 parts!

hRdaya (हृदय) is made up of 3 root words....hR, da and ya.

hR( हृ) is the root word for harati (हरति)  which means to take away.

da (द) is the root word for  dadAti ( ददाति ) which means to give

ya( य) is the root word for ayati (अयति ) which means to circulate/move about.

There you go! You can put your scalpels down now.

hRdaya (हृदय) just described the function of the heart..that is the heart takes away deoxygenated blood, gives oxygenated blood and circulates blood.

So with every beat of your hRdaya (हृदय) now you know Sanskrit too!

Now..why did I highlight all those words in blue?

Thats homework!
